Big Lent Walk – update

During the week beginning 26th February St Joseph’s completed the 200km Big Lent walk raising money for Cafod.  All children in KS1 and KS2 walked 10 laps (or more!) of the playground every day and between them they managed to walk the entire 200km in one week! Well done to everyone.  A huge thank you to all of the Sports Leaders and Eco Leaders who not only walked their laps but supported the event every day by recording the number of laps walked and encouraging children throughout.

Big Lent Walk

As part of working towards the Live Simply Award, during Lent, St Joseph’s will be supporting CAFOD’s Big Lent Walk. This involves each class walking 200km over the week (week commencing 26th February). Each day during the week, the Chaplaincy Team and Sports Leaders will organise each class to walk their target for the day in school.

We are asking families and friends to sponsor the children using the fundraising link St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School is fundraising for CAFOD

CAFOD’s Lent Appeal is helping fishing communities feed their families in Liberia, as well as on women and girls in Rwanda facing gender-based violence.

In Ethiopia, CAFOD is working to respond to the devastating food crisis there. Years of drought caused by the climate crisis means families are no longer able to cope, but your support means we are working with people right now, providing them with water, emergency food and healthcare.

With your hard work and sponsorship this Lent, we can change families’ lives for good and tell poverty to take a hike.

Key Step Gymnastics Competition

On 7th February our Year 2 gymnasts took part in their Key Step Gymnastics Competition here at St Joseph’s.  They have been practising very hard in their lessons (and at home!) to perfect their routines.

They competed against 5 other local primary schools and came in 1st place in the team competition, and we secured first, second and third positions in the individual competition.

Well done to Year 2!  You should be very proud of your gold medals.

Football

On Friday 20th October our mixed Year 5/6 football team took part in a football tournament at Bridgwater College.  They played some brilliant football across five matches winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 2.  All were very close games and they achieved 4th position, just out of the medals by one goal.

Our player of the tournament was our goalkeeper  who made some fantastic saves.

Well done everyone!

Well done to all runners who braved the mud. The next cross country takes place during the last week of term.

Multi Faith Week

During multi-faith week, Year 1 and 2 enjoyed a visit from Mr Strange. He introduced them to the Jewish Sabbath. They enjoyed some Godly play, the story of Moses and the 10 commandments, watched a video about how Jewish people celebrate the Sabbath, sang a song and tasted Challah bread. Year 1 and 2 produced some beautiful writing and pictures after his visit.
